Sedation options
In order to relieve any anxiety your child may have about undergoing dental procedures, we over many different safe, effective sedation options, including inhaled, oral and I.V. sedation. Throughout their dental procedure, our skilled staff will closely monitor your child, putting his/her safety first at all times.
Nitrous Oxide
Otherwise known as “laughing gas,” this non-addictive gas is administered via a small breathing mask, allowing patients to relax, while remaining fully conscious and maintaining natural reflexes. It is quickly eliminated from the body once normal breathing is resumed. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, recognizes Nitrous Oxide as a very safe, effective technique to use for treating children’s dental needs.
Oral Sedation
This treatment method is recommended for very young children and those with special needs. Though the patient may become quite drowsy or fall asleep, full consciousness is maintained. The doctor will prescribe the specific medication best suited for your child’s overall health and dental treatment plan and will be happy to answer any questions you might have.
I.V. Sedation
If your child would be better served with unconscious sedation, I.V. sedation is available and administered by our fully qualified team. The dentist performs the dental procedure in our office while the patient is monitored by an anesthesiologist.
With any of these options, your doctor will carefully review with you all necessary information to prepare for a safe and effective procedure and will also educate you on what to expect after the treatment is completed. Please feel free to discuss any questions or concerns. Our team wants you to feel comfortable as they confidently care for your child!
